The blessing of eating together is supported by the narration of Abu Dawud's narration about the conversation of the Prophet Muhammad with his friends. In the hadith narrated by the Companions asking, 'why is the meal not full?'

The Messenger asked, "Are you eating individually?" The companions answered, "Yes." The Prophet then advised his friends to eat together.

"Eat all of you together and read the basmalah, then Allah will give blessings to all of you."

Companions of the Prophet also mentioned that the Prophet never ate alone. The Prophet also said that the best food is to eat with a lot of hands.

This iftar activity which is carried out collectively (in congregation) has elements of ukhuwah (tightening the silaturrahim of fellow Muslims), all of which have a clear and strong religious law basis.

The Prophet himself asked his followers to do the ukhuwah as mentioned in a fairly popular hadith, narrated by Bukhari-Muslim from a friend of Ibn Umar,

"A Muslim is related to another Muslim. He did not persecute, nor surrender him (to the enemy). Whoever meets the needs of his brother, Allah will also fulfill his needs. Whoever makes a person and a Muslim difficult, Allah will make for him one difficulty and the difficulties he faces in the future. Whoever closes the disgrace of a Muslim, Allah will close his disgrace in the days to come. "
